Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Is UAV operation allowed? Do you know the restrictions?
Answer: Currently no released FAA regulation exists - although there are many efforts to legalize espacially civilian UAV operation.
For preliminary FAA recommendations regarding UAV operation please have a look at this document.
For pre-programmed flights out of visual sight a restricted safety zone, e.g. a firing range is imperative. The minimum distance of flight tracks to congested areas is dependend on the restrictions given by individual countries laws.
E.g. in Germany min. 1.5km is a must.
In any case the UAV has to stay below 400ft AGL ( = 121m).
For pre-programmed missions in between line of sight the maximum distance is equal to the distance the operator can handle the airframe in full manual mode.
It is not allowed to extend the range by e.g. binoculars or FPV video equipment.
Question: I would like to buy 1-3 airframes for my project. What is the price?
Answer: UAV S&S is avoids to sell single components. It causes additional services we simply do not have time for. We are seeking for long termed business cases. We are always looking to series production. The project phase should have a minimum NRE of
300-500h.
Question: Why not establishing a licence production of airframes?
Answer: Sorry - but no. We have conducted lot's of risky test flights with many product iterations nobody would pay for. Additionately we need production added value to stabilize the company.
Question: For the autopilot: Did you implement dead reckoning, crosstrack correction for accurate path following? Do you consider heading corrections by wind estimation?
Have you implemented a magnetometer / Kalman filter?
Answer: Yes - but sometimes these features can be mission/application dependend and may cause headache for the payload. No Kalman filtering for the sensor fusion.
Best system performance is always the best fit between airframe, autopilot and flight envelope. Therefore the autopilot integration phase can be one of the most risky and time consuming phase of a UAV project.
Question: I want to use your Autopilot in a heli / in a quadcopter.
Answer: No - fixed wings only. Apart from that we do not sell isolated components of the system.
Question: So what will be the future steps of your company?
Answer: We are seearching for an investor who needs a proprietary solution for his application. The invest can be done directly or by merging the technology and ressources into the investors company. In both cases we require the platforms and technology is beeing continued. An one-time buyout in order to improve the market chances of the own investor's product is not our interest.
